Create Diverse Curriculum

“Until we get equality in education,

we won’t have an equal society.”

– Sonia Sotomayor

Challenge

Many school systems are working diligently to address disparities in schools. They are looking for comprehensive solutions to meet the diversity of their student population. Justly so, the U.S. Department of Education predicts that by 2024, students of color—including Black, Latinx, Asian, and American Indian students—will make up 54 percent of the student body in public schools.

Solution

Developing, modifying, or enhancing school curriculum to include all students is a dynamic and systematic approach to challenge classroom community inequalities. Everyone benefits when the curriculum draws on and respects the experiences and identities of all students. Gloria I Rodriguez & Associates is ready to partner with you on your next curriculum development project to create a rigorous, engaging and accessible curriculum for all students.

An Equity Mission: The Students We Serve and the Teachers Who Teach Them.

In addition, English language learners (ELs) comprise 10 percent of the student population enrolled in U.S. K–12 schools – the fastest- growing group of students in our nation’s schools. Many educators are underprepared to meet ELs linguistic and academic needs and lack the cultural competence to support diverse students.

What We Do:

Recruit Talent

Effective advocacy in curriculum includes professionals who mirror the culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) students in mainstream classrooms.

Develop Talent

CLD talent is highly knowledgeable in culturally and linguistically responsive education and ELD practices. This is the core we build on as members of the team.

Connect Talent

We provide Culturally and Linguistically Diverse talent to contribute to developing a strength-based curriculum rooted in respect, appreciation and high standards for CLD students in mainstream classrooms.

Why does diversity in publishing matter?

The book industry has the power to shape culture in large and subtle ways. The people behind the books serve as gatekeepers who can determine which stories are amplified and which are shut out. If the people in the publishing industry are not a diverse group, how can diverse voices truly be represented in its products?” Excerpt from Diversity Baseline Survey, 2019, Lee and Low Books.
